2012 Mecha Contest Entry: Legend Gundam Part 5

Hello Ladies and Gents .... Welcome to another modeling blog post ( you know whose voice I'm trying to talk in.. LOOOL )

Right, time for another update ....

if you guys can remember, I was working on a MG shoulder yes?? After 1 and a half year of trying and failing, I finally achieved the desire result. Don't worry, I will give a full walk through of what I did ( As I always do ) ....

Okay, picking up from I left off, I made the two slabs like so -

Those two slabs are both 1.5mm think, if you are curious ....
And this is the layout of it.....

which, assembled, gives me something like this -

And after assembled with the body, the shoulders look like this -

Which allow the shoulder to move freely just like a MG ....

Again, I have to give credit to and say thank you to Gondordestiny that it was because of him I was aware of such ''glitch'' .. and the glitch is the shoulder it self.. it was long and wide that it was hindering the movement of the arm and the arm can't swing out as much as I wanted to ... and referencing Gondordestiny's Legend, I knew how to counter that .. so Thank you again GondorDestiny of Plamo.

Right, moving on , I cut the shoulder itself like so -

Its not entirely finished yet, FYI

so that, when I put it on the body, the height is reduced that it does not hinder with the arm swinging movement anymore. ( as you can from the photo, the rod of the flap can be seen above the shoulder)

After cutting that shoulder like so, with no more hindering, it becomes like this

And I am grealy satisfied how it comes out ....

After that, I'm moving on to the knew. I want to make a MG knee and I have no idea how to do it so I ''copied'' MG WZC's knee movenment and I based my mods on dydee's 1/144 wing zero mod... so Thank you so much dydee....

So i made this -

and following this templete-

I cut 4 identical pieces of them, all 1 mm thick.

As you can see, I have two pieces of brass rods on the top... and this is so that I can form the knee like so -

and the little pieces I showed earlier is glued on like so -

and when the knee armour is attached, it can bend like this -

I know, I know,, this is kid stuffs but its the best I can do ....'''yet ''' ...  but at least, I'm happy with what I got ... I will see what more I can do ...

and I also extended the toe -

I was going to sand the steps down but I kinda like it ..... i might keep it.. but I'm not too sure.....

Right, this is it for this update .....and again I stress, my works are rough as I take photos as I build along...

Thank you all for looking and stay tuned for more ....

CONCEPT MECHA: UBA AW-01 Bandula - Part 4

on to update.....

i was working on the beak and i got this idea and started turning it into reality... First of all, I salvaged a part from the HG S-gundam and turn it into something like so -

Posted Image

That part was somewhat angled and wasn't flat so, i used my ''shaping by stacking'' to flat that part out .... the reason to flatten it out can be seen in the next photo ..
As uausl, i want to make my WIP, step by step and detailed, i combined every step on the next photo... i guess the whole explanation in the photo will be enough...
Posted Image

right, that's the beak done... i just need to put in some cylinderical part to use as optical devices ( and yes, this idea is taken from the apache)

Due to my friends support, i am now brave enough to put in pilots and a cock pit and instrumental panel ...

this is the panel which is in the front
Posted Image

And this is the, eh, plate between the two pilots and the panel for the 2nd pilot
Posted Image

I couldn't actually find any figure of a pilot in a 1/48 scale so i bought the cheapest i could find

These are the figures -
Posted Image

and yeah,, they are padres and indian... gonna make the padres pilot a mech just like in a anime,, LOL ... like the gang said, i have godly pilots.. :P

and the next step, i cut off the figures from the shoulders and they are gonna go in like this -
Posted Image

of cos, i have to sculpt the figures and give them helment and blah blah blah.. those steps, of cos, will be in the next update...
Oh yeah, i forgot,, due to the placement of the shoulders, i decided to close that rear component..

Stay tune.... and Thank you very very much

CONCEPT MECHA: UBA AW-01 Bandula - Part 3

Hey guys.... not really a very much of a up date... just doing things bits and bots there...
ok , on to the update...

I was just busy with cutting plates and sort of small stuffs and figuring out how to put in the the arms.. i initially thought of just keeping the arms fixed but the modding hormones in me screamed mod,, mod, more mod in my head.. so i decided to put in functioning arms... and here's how i made the arrangements -

1. I encase the ball joint cup with thick plates because the arms will be connected to heavy weapons so i need large surface area around the cup to do glue it into what i have in plan ....and here's the picture of those boxes
Posted Image

2. This is the lay out of how the ball cup will be placed... placed behind the plates at the bottom and those plates will then be glued to the ''boxes'''
Posted Image

and i glued them like so - Posted Image

3. as you all know, i made the box named ''left shoulder'' which is the missile launcher, right??? well, i need to make a right shoulder so i made it like so -
Posted Image
the guns i used are from the HG sentinel that i just scavaged... ( it was bought to be used as spare anyway.. :P )

4. Now that's the shoulders ( boxes taken care of) so i need to attach the plates that i glued the cups onto those boxes to make complete shoulders.. and voila.. just look at the picture
Posted Image

of course, the one on the left has to be flipped over for the ball cup to be facing the other way.. (just displaying how i put in the ball cup)

5. And, what next?? well, this next steps has a lot to do with MatX..if not for his tutorial, I wouldn't have known how to do it and my left shoulder would be nothing but an open Missie launcher... Thank you, my tutor.. :P (here's the link to how that hinge is made http://s3.zetaboards.com/MACforums/topic/7392582/1/#new )
ok, going back to my update, i made two hinges according to his tutorial... and voila
Posted Image
i got very very nifty hinges... they are still in the testing phase though, i need to check them out carefully , i don't want to be undergo fatigue failure or cracks..

and this is a test fix of what i have in mind -
Posted Image

I have to say, i am pretty darn pleased with myself with the missile launcher.. i have always wanted to build a missile launcher with hinges and hatches that close and open (ok, that open and closes.. what's wrong with saying it backward?? LOL )

oh and yes, how are the missiles made? i just use a 1.5 mm diameter rod and ... just stick it, cut, stick it, cut, and then sanded down the whole she-bang until they reached a uniform height...

that would be all for this update.. pls stay tune.. :P

CONCEPT MECHA: UBA AW-01 Bandula - Part 2

OK....update - remember that on the last post, i was making a canopy to go with the body... and i used the lower torso of the HG Sentinel gundams to built the .... main support (if you put it that way) of the body...

Posted Image

As you can see, i put a plate directly underneath the canopy... and the plate is supported by one diagonal and one horizontal support.... I like to use support.. it adds to the stability of the kit...

afterward, i use two layer of 1.50 mm plates to make the front body .. like so -
Posted Image

as you know, I'm putting on plates on the sides so basically, those plates are gonna buckle inward.. i don't want that .. so I supported them by inserting a piece of the barrel of the 1/400 dendrobium like so -
Posted Image

And I close that hole with a plate (I'm guessing i don't need to take a photo of this  )

that finished the front part of the body and i loved on to the rear and if you guys can refer back to the blue print, you can see that my back body is kinda angled.. so if i just stick on plates to form a box, its gonna buckle.. so i wanted to build them with support and i did it like so -
Posted Image

and then i closed that part with plates and as you can see from the photo, I'm still leaving the top open cos i want to put in some details in it -
Posted Image

and i built the , eh,, you could say left shoulder (due to its location )... out of plates .. and i put some round rods to those red spots... kinda like the missile bay of the Heavy arm custom ..

Posted Image

so basically.. it's gonna look like this on the kit...

Posted Image

Posted Image

and that beak like thingy you see there... I'm trying to figure out how to put on the nose... so that's basically it for this update.. Stay Tuned

CONCEPT MECHA: UBA AW-01 Bandula - Part 1

Hi, guys... This is my WIP for the MAC Concept Mecha GB...I just feel like sharing my works here.. This is gonna be my entry... a assualt walker type mech... used by the imaginary burmese army of a unified Burma, named after a famous Burmese general (the general is, of cos, real)..

here is a rough blue print of the mech..
Image

the idea is actually refered from the mech from the mech warrior series..( i love them so much)...

and after going through my stash of spare parts and broken model kits.. i have found this..

Image

as you can see from the photo, you might have guessed that i'm going to use the HG legs for the ''chicken-leg''... yes, you guessed it right... cos I'm not that skill-full to SB a leg out of nothing.... this is gonna be hard WIP with too much SB and with my tight schedule, i would only be able to progress slowly.. and also, i doubt i could make a mecha that would look exactly like the blueprint... so i do apologize in advance for that...

I was actually in the middle of no-where with this concept for a few week ( not because i have no idea.. i just don't know how to build it :P ) then suddenly.. after talking with my buddies on skype... i started working on this and i got this at first

Image

basically, i have a crashed 1/32 spitfire as you can see from my previous photo and i just use the bubble canopy from it to make the canopy for the Bandula.. im having a hard time SBing a hole core body so im starting from the canopy and work my way to all direction ( sides, front, back and below )...

and I used milliput putty to turn the pelvis into something like i have shown on the blueprint

Image

it's still short so i need to put in more putty... im doing this for cosmetics as well as to balnce out the weight of the kit...

held together by blue tack, this is a general layout of the Bandula

Image

of cos, obviously i won't be using the arms of the HG sentinal like that .. it just to show you guys how it will look...

need to do so many more steps... i need to make the body... put in the secondary weapon... this is rather a hard build for me but that won't stop me, alright.. thanks for reading.. and STAY TUNED for more
