The start of a legendary tutorial

Hello and welcome to another blog post from the hummingbird.

First of all, I would like to say sorry for my lack of update on the blog, I have hit a wall and my mojo was just dropping, all time low.

Now, is a prime time to blog about a up and coming series of tutorials from one of he Legend of Decay ( you can argue about Decay's being the Legend of MAC as much as you like, but seriously, he is one ).

As you all know, Decay has decided to make an 3 hour long, fully detailed and fully explained tutorial on painting mini figures, such as those of the Warhammer series.

Here is the very first video that I speak of -

Now, you might argue why his tutorial should be featured like this and blah blah blah. Right, I have everything I need to counter that.

is hand painted entirely..... and not to mention Decay has been modelling for a total of 20 years and he has been painting Warhammer figures back in the days so nuff'said, I guess.

Special Feature 1.1 - Decay's Space Type Sazabi (HG)

Hello there Ladies ( if there are any) and gents .... Once again, its time for the little birdy to blog again....

And that's right ... you saw it in the title... A special feature .... for one of the Legend of MAC. . and the name of the Legend is Decay.

Now if you all could remember that I made a blog post about the build off between the Decaying Legend and the Hand Painting Assassin, You might have noticed already What I will be featuring today. But in case you don't remember, let me kindly refresh your memories with a link back to it - Here it is 

Right, now, I'm pretty sure You all know who Decay is but there maybe some who don't know so let me re-introduce him again -

If you could kindly refer back to the announcement about their build off, Decay and Kamm decided to mod a HIGH GRADE Sazabi into their own version. Decay choose a space type and worked on and boy-oh-boy, did he mod it or what.

To do justice to the space theme, he went for a Gray Red color scheme tha was inspired by one of his favorit games - Mass Effect.

And hang on to your hats cos the next fact will blow you away ... The whole kit has been hand painted. That's right, Hand painted... I will be damned if I could find a single brush stroke on that thing... ( thank god I didn't.. :P )

You may be wondering why I featuring this exclusively while I have my own chapter, featuring Decay's work...  Well, here's a list of why -
1st - a very very magnificent piece of model
2nd - the mods are legendary - it's not even the Saz anymore .... its been DECAYED
3rd - one of the best weathering I have seen
4th - amazing paint and clour scheme, screams out ''alien'' or ''space''
5th - perfect decals

I could go on and on about this Sazabi ... but Why bore you out ???

Featured Modellers Chapter 3.3: Decay's Vent Saviour

Hello dear readers.


Its been quite some time since I have featured another modeler's work. I do apologize as life has been quite hectic on me these days and I don't find the time to blog about featured modelers.


So, today, let me proudly present you another work from a dear friend of mine, a friend who is also one of the legend of MAC, a man who is the champion for the customized category for the recently concluded EUGC, and that is no other then ... DECAY.


Again, for Decay, this is nothing more then a relaxed build but he did stated that this is his practice build. Why would someone with his skill need to practice, I don't have the slightest clue, but he did say he been wanting to do something that wasn't heavily modded and just stick with the original design and add detail. 


As you all know, he has been building all of kits with super-massive mods and really really weathered or damage looks and this is his first time building a super clean build. He also said it's very hard to make a kit all nice and clean while adding modes; everything needs to be double check and sanded. And even when he was in the final stages, he noticed new errors that he did not see before.


He did make some minor doo-doos on this while he was painting, though. While top coating it, some of the blue color was damaged they need to be re-done. Apparently, such doo-doos are hard to control and even he himself doesn't know why that happend and how he can prevent that from happening in the future. 


And as you can see this, before and after photos- 



The original kit doesn't have the upper-rotated thigh but it comes with a ball joint. And if you can look at the after photo, you will see he did something on the thigh, which is a MG-fied upper thigh. He made that thigh by using the parts that I sent him. I, The hummingbird, has to scavenged my NG Aile Strike and send him that kits upper arms (biceps) so that he can have much better posing ability in the legs. I don't really regret scavenging my kit as he had made this kit so beautiful that it was worth doing so.


Again, nothing less then a awesome piece of art from the Decaying Legend of MAC, a piece of art that I am proud and honored to share with fellow gunpla enthusiasts. Here comes the photos -

Featured Modellers Chapter 3.2: Decay's Kshatriya

Hello dear readers. Once again, I have the honor to proudly feature and present one of my close friend's work. This friend of mine goes by the Name of Decay, the Decaying Scratch-builder.

Special introduction won't be necessary as you all know the amazing works of Decay and you probably have seen his previous work. In any case if you haven't seen it, here is a flash back to his The-O.

This is , for Decay, nothing more then a relaxed built. But it would not be exaggerating to call him a great modeler as you can see from the photos. Let's see what he said about his own build, shell we -

'' I have to say this was a fun built, but I would still prefer a plastic kit over a resin, simply because I did not dare to mode this.
Another thing is that while I was taking the pictures, I was so scared to move it because once the wings are on it, it becomes very heavy and puts a lot of pressure on the legs. This is also the reason I glued it to the base. ''

There you go. This was the first kit that he used Revell Aqua colours, which are basically acrylic color from model company Revell and he said those revell acrylic works pretty well. ( I can vouch on those paints as I use them myself ).

He used them with both his airbrush and brush. He said that this kit is about 50% hand painted and that is the main reason he went for the Revell colors.

And he used hair spray technique to make those magnificent paint chips and weathering effects. And dang, those weathering are just too awesome.

Decay's skill has been noticeable in his scrathbuilding but even more so obvious in painting and weathering as he has spent the last 20 years, modeling and painting figures. No surprising his touch on this kit is no less then awe-inspiring. I am proud to feature the works of my dear friend and a value member of MAC.

Build Off - Kamm Vs Decay

Hello party people. I terribly sorry to post this belated event but, to my own silliness, I completely forgotten about it. My bad.

Right, before anything ... let me just post this banner I shamelessly ripped from Decay's blog



Yep... That's right, its a build off between legends of MAC. I dobut there is a need to further introduce Kamm as you all would know him as the Hand Painting Assassin. His Works have been featured on my blog and Don's blog so , if you kindly let me, I will skip the intro about Kamm. ( Sorry kamm buddy.. haha )

Right, I haven't featured Decay as much as Kamm, so here's a summarized info about him -

• Decay has been modelling for over 20 years
• only started working on Gunpla for a mere two year
• Decay was only scarcely active at figure FM once
• he became an active member of MAC as soon as he register
• He now hold the VIP status in MAC
• And best of all, A very very very good friend of mine.

Right, Kamm and Decay has decided to work on 1/144 Sazabi and they will be tackling this in their own way. Kamm is going for a (quote from him ) a stealth jungle, fast and quick weapon theme ..... and believe you me, he's making a terrific job on this. Decay, he's working a space themed, weathered kit. Both of them are making their own version of the Sazabi but Kamm is keeping, more or less, to the original sazabi looks while Decay is pimping out new designs like crazy. And both have agreed to finish this by the end of October.

An awesome awesome build off between the Legends of MAC. The handpainting assassin, pushing himself to scratch build VS the decaying scratch-builder, A man with great scratch building skills. With those great modelers, this build-off have no reason what-so-ever to not to be awesome. Who will you support? The hand painting assassin that have been making beautiful hand painted models OR the Decaying scratch-builder that have been making magnificent modding and scratch build to his models?

Featured Modellers Chapter 3.1: Decay's The-O

Hello dear readers. In this chapter 3 of my featured modeller series, I will be proudly presenting a very very beautiful kit done by a fellow modeller from MAC, who is also a member of a group of close friend. His name is Marc Meyer, known as Decay on MAC and this beautiful piece of his work that will be presented is a one of kind THE-O.

Decay was only scarcely active at figure FM once and when he knew about MAC, he became an active member right away (although I honestly have no idea how he knew of MAC :P ). He has then graced MAC with a magnificent piece of art and his contribution to the forum is very very enormous.

Decay has been modelling for over 20 years, working on the warhammer figures and Lord Of the Rings figures. He has only started working on Gunpla for a mere two year. And this THE-O is the second project that he has done, by project, I mean like customising, modding project, not including OOTB.

Decay airbrushed this baby with desert yellow all over and did weathering with hairspray and pastel. The modding he has done include moving of the hidden arms to the elbows, making the chest look more boxy, bulky, major changes on the feet and some cosmetics changes here and there and of course, major works on the gun.

Now, what's great of this kit is that, Decay turned the THE-O into his own style, his own concepts and that concepts just turned out awesome. By my count, ( keep in mind of my hate for the THE-O), I have only seen 3 or 4 other THE-O, and two are Kamm's and Don's. The weathering Decay put on this massive kit is just simply amazing, subtle and realistic. And with the new cosmetic changes, who else can argue that this is not beautiful??
